Russian Dolls

Painting: Russian Dolls - with garden fairy behind curtain
New Painting: Russian Dolls
While having my niece with us over the summer, I noticed her interest for the Russian dolls I have in display.  I told her she could play with them if she wanted to, but to be gentle with them.  And she did.  A Russian doll, also called Russian nesting doll, is made of wood and comes in a set with each smaller doll placed one inside another.  It’s official name is Matryoshka doll. The name was popular among Russian peasants over a century ago and represents the matriarch of a big Russian family.  This is one of the things I like about them - remind me of my family and my dearest grandma holding us all together.

Anyways, the other day I moved the dolls by one of my windows.  Moved by their simplicity, I drew them and started painting them.  To my surprise, however, one of the garden fairies peeked in from behind the curtain and totally p-bombed! [grin] :-)
