Grey Ghost's Starry Night

This year I was invited to participate in an art exchange by mail.  The participants in this group hand-make their art pieces using collage techniques and then they mail them to their designated person (this is a random person from the group).  Like a "secret Santa" game but specifically about mailable art.  Neat idea, uh?! :-)

I've been playing a bit with collage over the past few months, but hadn't really made any full pieces.  To make a piece that I would send to my "designated person", I first gathered some old pieces of art scraps and papers to get my creative juices going.  I played some Mozart on the background (this is the week after Thanksgiving), and then... well, ...and nothing happened.  I mean, nothing came out of my creativity sessions trying to make this collage piece.  Cutting lots of paper seemed rather tedious at times! LOL

I got busy with other projects, etc... After a few days I had to return to making this collage piece because the clock was ticking.  It was almost time to mail that art piece.

Going through some old Grey Ghost sketches, I found the one below - where she was taking a nap.  This had also happened to have found its way into the book "Grey Ghost Mischief: Grub a la Grande".  I guess I really enjoyed watching my little Grey Ghost in her sleep.  ...anyways, after several cups of delicious tea, plenty of electronic tunes, and lots of paper-making and cutting later, the piece below was created.  I named it Grey Ghost's Starry Night (inspired by you know who's Starry Night :-) ).

Lesson: when short in inspiration, turn to the old masters!
