Author Haydee Zayas was our guest at my podcast & webcast @BilingualBookBuddies. I and my co-hosts authors Alicia Salazar and Silvia Lopez had a wonderful time with her visit! This was our very first interview fully in Spanish! For those who don't speak Spanish, here I share 3 takeaways so that you too get to enjoy a little bit of Haydee's interview.
#1 Take that Risk!
We have to take risks to achieve our dreams. For example, Haydee sent her first book in response to a call for submissions, but it was really more of a test for herself, to see what kind of response she would get.
#2 Give your child tools for life!
Difficult topics, such as death, are just as important to discuss with children as any other subject. Talking to them sensitively, and using resources like books to help explain the topic if necessary, gives them tools for life.
#3 Create Reading Spaces for Your Child.
Adults can create reading spaces and experiences where children can ask questions and talk about their emotions and feelings. This is very important for child development and it often encourages reading and communication and can strengthen family bonds.

Para quienes hablan español, les aviso que este fue nuestro primer episodio de @BilingualBookBuddies en el que toda la entrevista fue completamente en Español. Aquí les comparto 3 cosas que a mi me parecieron importantes, pero, les recomiendo ver todo el episodio porque ella nos compartió mucho mas!
#1 Hay que arriesgarse para lograr nuestros sueños. Por ejemplo Haydee envió su libro respondiendo a una convocatoria pero en realidad fue mas bien una prueba para si misma, para ver que le respondían.
#2 Los temas difíciles, por ejemplo el tema de la muerte, son igual de importantes para discusión con los niños como cualquier otro tema. Al hablar con ellos de manera sensible y si es necesario con recursos como libros que le ayuden a explicar el tema, les da herramientas para la vida.
#3 Adultos pueden crear espacios y experiencias de lectura en donde los niños puedan hacer cualquier pregunta y hablar de sus emociones y sentimientos. Esto es algo muy importante en el desarrollo infantil.
