I'm a PODCASTER! ¡Soy Podcaster!

I guess it has taken me a few weeks to get used to the idea of being a podcaster.  :-).  This is a road I hadn't consider taking.  ...until last summer when I started to think about ways to promote my new book (which was a work in progress at that time).  This new book is bilingual ( We Are The Valley! / ¡Somos El Valle! ) and it launched this year in January thanks to an amazing collaboration with the Phoenix Suns and the Phoenix Mercury!  But when I was working on it last year, I remember thinking about how back in 2016 when I was translating Dr. Wilson's picture book Ginger Dog or Ginger Bear?  I spent a lot of time going through libraries in the San Francisco Bay Area and finding only a relatively small number of bilingual picture books.  Today we have many more than back then - yay!  But they're still far less in numbers than non-bilingual books.  So I became more curious and researched more checking out different options including podcasts.  Then, call it serendipity,... in the Fall, a fellow writer (Alicia) invited me to chat about pursuing a podcast idea that matched my idea closely.  She had been blogging about bilingual picture books and wanted to expand that into a podcast somehow.  She was open to including illustrators and everyone involved in the creation process as I was envisioning.  I said "let's do it!"  Quickly we had another brave "busy bee" join us (Silvia), a talented and more experienced writer who totally completed our team!   ...and the @BilingualBookBuddies podcast & webcast was born!  

These three brave, busy bees, BBB, as we playfully call ourselves behind the scenes, got to work!  We knew little about creating a podcast but we learned, planned, and did all the ground work for several months until we were ready to launch our very first episode in May 2025!  

It is now available at major podcasting places like Amazon, Apple, iHeartRadio, and Spotify!  And the webcast is on our designated YouTube channel, airing a brand new episode every two weeks, on Wednesday.

Les comparto que me ha llevado algunas semanas acostumbrarme a la idea de ser podcaster. :-). Este es un camino que no había considerado tomar. ... hasta el verano pasado, cuando comencé a pensar en formas de promocionar mi nuevo libro (que era un trabajo en progreso en ese momento).  Este nuevo libro ilustrado es bilingüe ( ¡We Are The Valley! / ¡Somos El Valle! ) y se lanzó este año en enero gracias a una increíble colaboración con los Phoenix Suns y las Phoenix Mercury. Pero cuando estaba trabajando en él, durante el verano pasado, recuerdo pensar en cómo en el 2016, cuando estaba traduciendo el libro ilustrado del Dr. Wilson, Ginger Dog o Ginger Bear?, pasé mucho tiempo recorriendo bibliotecas en el área de la Bahía de San Francisco y encontrando solo un número relativamente pequeño de libros ilustrados bilingües. Hoy tenemos muchos más que en ese entonces, ¡yay! Pero siguen siendo menos en cantidad que los libros no bilingües. Me dio mas curiosidad e investigué más, revisando diferentes opciones, incluidos los podcasts.   Luego, llámenlo casualidad... en otoño, una colega escritora (Alicia) me invitó a charlar sobre una idea para un podcast que encajaba perfectamente con la mía.  Ella había estado escribiendo en su blog sobre libros ilustrados bilingües y quería ampliarlo a un podcast.  Estaba dispuesta a incluir ilustradores y a todos los involucrados en el proceso de creación, tal como yo lo imaginaba.  Dije "¡'pa luego es tarde!"  Casi de inmediato se nos unió otra valiente"abeja trabajadora" muy talentosa quien completó nuestro equipo. ¡Y así nació el podcast y webcast @BilingualBookBuddies!

Estas tres abejitas trabajadoras (y valientes), BBB (por sus siglas en Inglés, Brave Busy Bees, que es como nos decimos entre nosotras), pusimos nuestras manos a la obra.  Sabíamos poco sobre como hacer un podcast - jaja.  Aprendimos, planificamos e hicimos todo el trabajo preliminar durante varios meses hasta que estuvimos listas para lanzar nuestro primer episodio en mayo del 2025.

¡Ya está disponible en las principales plataformas de podcasting como Amazon, Apple, iHeartRadio y Spotify! Y el webcast está en nuestro canal de YouTube, donde se emite un episodio nuevo cada dos semanas, los miércoles.
